No need reservation to the cave. There is a cost - few Euros. I dont remember the exact cost. However, in rainy days it is recommended to have a reservation

It is damp in the caves and the ground surface is very uneven in places as the lava has left rugged and quite spikey areas. As long as your footwear is strong enough to protect your feet and the soles are non slip and thick enough to avoid the discomfort of the uneven surfaces then good trainers or walking boots will be OK

It is adjacent to the ring road on the north side of 2 Circular. Leave Ponta Delgada to the north west. Get onto Rua Do Paim (heading north). You pass under the ring road and immediately turn left. Park up on the right hand side and the building entrance is in front of you. Enjoy!
