Loose clothing preferably pure linen or Cotton avoid man made fabrics which wil make you sweat more. For length of trousers /shorts there is no official dress code for men whatever you feel more comfortable in however for women it is better if you are wearing shorts to have ones that come down as far as your knees... and tshirts that cover your forearms ... you will see tourists dressed in all types of clothes from the skimpy down to the moving tent on legs, so it's really upto you but showing a bit of respect as you said goes along way to making everyone, not just you but also those around you feel comfortable. Oh yes a hat is a must last week we had a heat wave and the temperature was upto 45 in Cairo and 50+ in Aswan, luckily lasted only 4 days but the summer has definitely arrived

So sorry, our trip was just one part of an organised tour. I believe you can find independent guides but we were so happy with On The Go holiday i would recommend you contact them.
