Originally the site of a hunting lodge in 1040, this splendid building houses a 17th-century organ played by the composer Handel. The house itself dates from 1315 and the architecture is mainly Tudor and Elizabethan with Georgian additions. Outside, there are colorful rhododendrons and azaleas in the landscaped Capability Brown-style gardens, a lime avenue, yew walk, a maze and beautiful rose gardens. Supported by two oak trees from the lodge, this hall is open to public for two months, usually around July; but can be visited throughout the year by prior arrangement.
