We had a nice visit to the castle. We chose to walk 2.5 miles one way. You can take a shuttle if you want from the visitors center. The walk is pleasant along the lough. The castle is well maintained… nohassle1956的完整评论

Yes the park is open in October. Beautiful views. And from the car park there is shuttle buses to the castle also. Just check for tour times if you want to see inside the castle as these have to be purchased. Rest of national park is free.

As far as I can tell anyone can park at the car park, then get the shuttle bus to the Castle. But I believe there is a facility for blue badge holders to drive there themselves. The Castle has stairs though, so it might not be that accessible to people with mobility issues.
