The anodic coating is a hexagonal matrix of aluminum oxide, the pores of the matrix are filled with trapped dye molecules. Aluminum oxide is a hard glassy material and does not hold paint nearly as well as properly treated bare aluminum.

The prep for the actual anodizing process is cleaning all oils and impurities that would affect the acids and dyes and give you uneven color. Thats done with a lotta water and specific chemicals.

If you wish to darken the bare aluminum, wet the surface with ammonia while continually agitating with a soft sponge and replentishing the ammonia film for an hour or so.

2002年5月16日 · Someone just told me, they used Naval Jelly as a treatment *after* abrasive cleaning of steel or iron, just prior to priming and painting. Thats what they were taught in high school "auto-shop". This is surprising to me, as my experience with the stuff, and with etching primers on aluminum would make me think just the opposite would be true.
