Protruding studs also make it possible to hang the wheel temporarily on the studs when installing. On a Mercedes with lug bolts (studs) your cross-threading misadventure damages the hub.

2021年10月28日 · Lug bolts are cheaper to manufacture. They save money for the manufacturer. A wheel and hub using bolts has fewer parts and fewer steps in manufacture. Studs are a better design. They are stronger (which is why all trucks have them, including European ones) and allow easier assembly when manufacturing or servicing the car.

I thought from the title you were talking about stud-pilot lug nuts, which are a 2-piece inner and outer lug system used on non stud-pilot (non budd) wheels. Those are a ROYAL BITCH to get apart when they come off weird.

They'll have a floating seat that can rotate freely. Acts just like a washer would in that it helps the lug nut or lug bolt have a better mating surface to torque to.

2016年7月12日 · In drag racing, we always ran longer studs and open ended lug nuts so the threaded stud protrudes through the nut so you can see it is on correctly with a visual inspection. it''s a rule in the faster racing classes and if you can't see the wheel studs through the lug nuts, the car won't pass safety inspection.
