New Mexico Flora: Species List
New Mexico Flora Images of plants from New Mexico and other parts of southwestern North America. Most of these plants occur or were photographed in New Mexico, but I've also lumped in any plants I've photographed west of the Mississippi that don't occur in Indiana.

A common cactus on limestone in southern New Mexico. The species has previously been split up into a several indistinct species, but these are not recognized in the Flora of North America. Plant habit at Bishop's Cap, 10/16/05.

A widespread species, peripheral in New Mexico. This species is found primarily in high-elevation meadows and is similar to Boechera stricta. It differs from that species in having ascending rather than erect fruits, and in having stalked rather than malpighiaceous trichomes on the basal leaves.

Similar to narrow-leaved forms of Sarcostemma cynanchoides, this species is both uncommon in southern New Mexico and, in my experience at least, rarely in flower. I have seen the vegetative stems a half-dozen times but as of yet no flowers.

It has been reported from extreme southwestern New Mexico, but, according to the Flora of North America, these reports cannot be verified.
