And I also realized that when tipping the clock on the mantle to get the pendulum started, I was doing it too aggressively which would cause the pendulum to 'jump' and not gently swing so the clock would stop sometimes after just 3 days.

The clock movement has been oiled and runs fine with only the second and hour hands installed. By the way, the second hand is driven by the shaft of another wheel in the movement.

It came with a gilbert pendulum. its still gaining so much time! so far ive dug out a no. 124 pendulum, which wasnt much heavier as i'd hoped.

2009年12月6日 · Just got a seth Thomas mantel version and it has a 120 movement. Was missing the key so i found one and blew out the dust, and it seems to keep almost perfect time. The only issue is that it wont "bong" i try to wind up the left side insert but it just keeps winding with little resistance. Striker when i pickup makes a report.

2024年2月28日 · My Seth Thomas Adamantine clock manufactured in May 1908 is nearing return to running condition. I believe it is a ST 89C movement. It has an adjustable lead pendulum weight of 1.75 inch diameter. One of the items to replace is what appears to be a home made suspension spring and rod assembly.

The movement in this clock is mounted to the rear wall of the clock case via an iron bracket that also supports the pendulum via a suspension spring. With the dial removed, that setup looks like this... View attachment 775671 The popular 61 movement is held to the iron bracket by 4 taper pins.

This latter adjusts the length of the flat flexible suspension spring from which the pendulum hangs. But if the clock is gaining 20 seconds per hour, that's not where the difficulty is.

I found those on the forum here, found a pendulum in timesavers that works ( see photo). Following the length above makes the 48R in this clock run 2 -2 1/2 hours fast /day.
