2001年9月24日 · Figure 1 typifies the binary phase diagram formed by addition of an alpha stabiliser (such as aluminium, oxygen, nitrogen or carbon) to titanium. Oxygen is added to pure titanium to produce a range of grades having increasing strength as the oxygen level is raised.
Titanium undergoes an allotropic phase tranformation at 882.5 °C, changing from a closed-packed hexagonal crystal structure (a phase) below, to a body-centered cubic crystal structure (P phase) above this temperature.
We turn now to a four-lecture primer on titanium al-loys. We will focus on titanium alloys for high integrity aerospace applications, but will pause brie y towards the end to consider commercially pure (CP) titanium in chem-ical plant, armour applications and biomedical alloys.
