Our first onion harvest was… okay…lol. Two things we learned: onions are heavy feeders and we should have fertilized again. And we should have stopped watering after the bulbs formed, I think we over watered. Bonus lessons: we probably planted too deep and we need to plant earlier next time! It's onion harvest time! I look for the tops of the onions to start flopping over and for a thick skin to develop on the outside of the onions. Then I know it’s time to pull. I usually dry them in very shallow piles maybe only one or two onions thick on wire racks, with good airflow, and out of direct sun and rain. It’ll take several weeks for them to cure. Once cured, they should last for several months in storage depending on the variety. | Mindful Farmer
