Here are two tips for using dowels in projects! 1) if you cut a kerf size slit in the end, then the dowel will have a much easier time going in. To safety keep my fingers away while cutting the slit at the bandsaw, I made a quick jig that allowed me to push and pull the dowel through the blade. Then 2) put a small bevel on the tip of the dowel. I used my @triton_tools belt sander to achieve this. When cutting dowels at the miter, I throw any scrap between it and the fence. This gives me an easier hand hold. Then when I need to make multiple cuts, I make a sharpie mark directly on the deck of my saw. Yes, you can use a stop block but why fight against kick back if you don’t have to?? The sharpie erases easily after you’re done. Then a third tip, while I’m at it! I use a cut dowel to mark off my bit to visually see the depth I need to bore. #shoplife #makeanything | Wilker Do's
