Unpopular opinion: Hair doesn’t grow away from the locs, but it can break away from the locs. I always see posts with people saying their hair grows away from the locs but it’s just breakage. When locs are started all of the hair is coiled or twisted into the locs. It’s normal for some hairs to pop out because they could’ve already been shorter when started. But significant amounts of loose hair around the loc can be an indicator or breakage that needs to be addressed. Breakage leads to thinning
