The film follows Sophie as she is cursed by an evil witch and runs away from home to find Howl’s moving castle on the hills outside Kingsbury. Miyazaki presents themes of pacifism/anti-war that he hadn’t focused on this much since “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind” (1984). He shows how war can be glorified.
